"Our caregiver was carefully selected to assist our family with a combination of thoughtful caregiving activities at a difficult time. I, along with my brother Mike and his wife Debbie (a nurse), have worked with a wide range of aids supporting our mothers complex needs for several years. We were confronted with a combination of pulmonary, heart and dementia issues, all compounded by a broken hip. This was no small task and a good deal of fast learning was required.
"Our caregiver arrived on the scene in three very complex healthcare environments where she represented our family at Saddleback Hospital, Villa Valencia Skilled Nursing Center and Aegis of Laguna Niguel Assisted Living.
"In every case, she was a thoughtful gentle leader and protector of our mother, while respecting the professionals surrounding her. The caregivers patience and excellent manner of communicating with these various organizations and in the end, with hospice, was a model for anyone to respect. At every turn in the road, over several weeks, she was present with the ability to read Mom's thoughts and feelings and pain until her last breath. It was amazing for all of us to witness as a family.
"She was also sensitive to individual family members as they arrived from distant cities, making sure they were comfortable while all the time emanating a positive, caring disposition to everyone, no matter the stress level. The greatest compliment of all is when our Mom would turn to her continuously, to check signals and smile, knowing everything was going to be all right in her caregiver's hands.
